USING LESS
POWER
The Cuprous Local Controller (LC) enables electric vehicle charging stations to be installed while avoiding expensive mainboard upgrades.
The Cuprous LC is the only Australian-made solution combining hardware and software to manage EV charging loads smartly and securely. Easy to retrofit, it prevents overloads, balances charging rates, boosts fire safety and cyber security, and works with most chargers and cloud systems. Built on the Cuprous Secured-Edge Gateway with advanced OCPP load management, it delivers powerful performance without major infrastructure upgrades.
FUTURE-PROOF
The Cuprous LC supports OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1, enabling seamless integration with a wide range of charging stations and management systems. It can connect any combination of devices and perform protocol conversion between OCPP versions, future-proofing installations as technology evolves. Cuprous is also an active contributor to the OCPP standards.
RESPONSIVE
The Cuprous LC receives real-time load data from charging stations and current transducers, using a network model to calculate unmeasured currents. Typically, a single transducer on the main supply is enough for full load management across all sub-boards and chargers. It supports a range of common transducers via MODBUS/TCP or MODBUS/RS485 connections.
SECURITY
The Cuprous LC strengthens site cyber security by securely terminating insecure charging station connections and providing a protected link to the CSMS. It maintains up-to-date TLS certificates, supports secure connections via TLS or WireGuard VPN, and features signed firmware updates, tamper detection, and encrypted data storage for enhanced protection.

INTEGRATION
A CSMS based in the cloud normally provides authorisation, billing and the user-facing app. The Cuprous LC works with the CSMS and adds realtime functions best performed at the site; these being load management and fire panel integration. The role of a Local Controller and its interactions with the CSMS are defined by OCPP.
BALANCED
The load manager allocates available current at each board to active charging connectors, adjusting for phase use and real-time demand. While fair current sharing is the default, a range of custom policies is possible through a flexible bid-curve algorithm.
PROTECTION
A single Cuprous LC can perform load management for an electrical system with multiple sub-boards and both single and three-phase components. It will protect each sub-board in addition to the main supply.

FLEXIBILITY
The Cuprous LC’s load manager uses an electrical network model to map boards, breakers, and chargers, supporting any practical system without software changes. Installers can choose from a library of standard models or create custom ones for larger or more complex sites, with Cuprous support available to assist.
FIRE SAFETY
The Cuprous LC provides an electrically isolated connection to a site's fire panel. All EV charging is interrupted in the event of a fire alarm.
