Cuprous is setting the standards for our connected energy future

Cuprous is granted a major research project



We are thrilled to announce that Cuprous has been awarded a significant research grant with the Australian Research in Power Systems Transition (AR-PST). The AR-PST is a multi-year program to identify strategies for transitioning Australia to a stable, secure, and affordable electricity grid. The program initially focused on grid-level requirements and has now shifted its attention to "behind-the-meter" solutions at residential and commercial sites.


At the same time, there is a new Australian Standard focused on interoperability behind the meter, known as AS5438. Our primary research focus is ensuring this draft standard can be implemented practically.


Adopting AS5438 is essential to building a resilient, renewable grid. Without this standard, residential and commercial energy systems risk fragmentation, leading to communication silos and significant inefficiencies. Coordinating these resources could unlock $7 billion in savings according to analysis by AEMO. Our hope is that AS5438 compliance will eventually become a requirement for receiving grants from the Australian government, including the Cheaper Home Batteries Program.


Our project is well underway, and its primary outputs will be two open-source software packages to assist computer network communications between manufacturers of solar inverters, batteries, Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers, and more.


We are honoured to collaborate with Australia’s leading energy and research institutions and look forward to contributing to a cleaner, more connected energy future for the nation.
